Nagesh
Kukunoor and Akshay Kumar tried
to go from Desi to Videsi and
burnt their hands. Nagesh's
attempt to reach Bangkok and
Akshay Kumar's attempt to woo
China went against them. Will
the long delayed '8 X 10 Tasveer'
revive the two's career graph
which had witnessed its first
downward slope? With a built-in

celebrities a good opening was ensured,
but will the movie live upto its expectations
and survive in the long run?
The story seems to be inspired from supernatural
Hollywood thrillers like “Sixth sense”
or “Eyes of Laura Mars” but
original at the same time. The film is about
Jai and his supernatural gifts. He can get
inside any photo and see through the eyes
of the person he concentrates on, but only
for a minute after the picture has been
taken. And when his father dies he decides
to investigate the mystery with the help
of a detective Happ (Javed Jeffery) and
his wife to be, Sheela (Ayesha Takia). But
the people whom he suspects gets killed
one by one and he has to find out the truth
soon or pay the ultimate price.
When the forest officer hero tries to arrest
a hunter, he hammer throws the bear trap
into a near by pond which might even be
eligible for a world record throw as Akki
pounces through the jungle and runs for
at least a kilometre or more to reach the
pond and jumps from the hill top into the
pond to retrieve the bear trap evidence.
So thus opens this make-believe saga of
gifted hero and his pursuit to find the
truth. The story overall is quite interesting,
some scenes are well taken and the twist
at the end is unexpected (the twist has
been circling around as rumours). However
this is not a movie which was expected from
Nagesh Kukunoor. The master story teller
falters and makes a mess of the whole proceedings.
The main drawback for this film apart from
the clumsy predictable screenplay is that
it tries to very hard to be logical too.
The crossover king has again failed to make
a commercial film in spite of having the
current superstar of Bollywood at his disposal.
The camera work by Vikas Shivaraman is flawless,
so is the editing. Music by Salim Sullaiman
is decent with the pop song being very interesting
and the background score works its charm
too. The dialogues are painstakingly clichéd
and some dialogues in serious scenes evoke
laughter (was it deliberate?). Special effects
need a mention especially towards the end.
Akshay Kumar does his role effortlessly,
Ayesha Takia is dull and somehow her usual
liveliness is missing. Sharmila Tagore is
a perfect cast, but Girish Karnaad and Ananth
Mahadevan are wasted in small roles which
have minimal scope to test their histrionics.
Javed Jeffrey is a revelation and even though
this clean freak, weirdo detective gets
on your nerves at first, you do fall for
his antics gradually.
The director and actor has followed up a
disaster with a below average movie which
is a decent watch but in no way a good thriller.
Go for 8 x 10 Tasveer if you have time to
kill and have already exhausted all the
other movie choices.
Verdict:
Crossover hangover
