Director Selva is back after a while with Naanga, a film revolving around youngsters and what is reportedly the best part of their lives. Obviously, the film is a college drama / romance of five different people strung together. Apart from the adolescent love that is featured in the movie, there is also the controversial older girl - younger boy romance, in which Kasturi features as the girl in her thirties romancing a lad much younger to her age. That, probably is the talking point of the movie.
The movie is set sometime between 1985 - 2011 and spans from one friend to another. Connecting each story is a common thread. Interestingly, Naanga is Selva's 25th film and he has also taken the producer's mantle with this one.
All the lead characters are debuts and have film background. Lead cast include actor Adityan's son Nivas, director Santhana Bharati's son Sanjay Krishna, composer Vasu Rao's son Muneesh, production executive Gurusamy's son Vinod, film distributor Chandrasekhar's son Uday and Ashwin Raja, son of producer Swaminathan. Except for Kasturi, the lead female characters are performed by debutantes.
Selva's Naanga is releasing this weekend. Balabarathy has composed music for Naanga while the movie is produced by Selva's own banner Cinema Kottagai productions.
