Although many biggies have shied away from releasing their films owing to the world cup cricket fever that is rampant, there is no dearth of releases. Ayyan is a small timer releasing in the assurance that its story will work despite the cricket fever.
Produced by Sekar Rajan for Varsha pictures, Ayyan has Vasan playing the lead. If you remember a movie named Maamadurai released a while ago, you might also remember that Vasan stepped into the industry with Maamadurai. In Ayyan, Vasan plays the role of a hopeless village chap who goes on to become the village’s god – Ayyan. The movie follows the title character’s rise to stardom from the dusty tracks of a village. There is also love and the tribulations it brings in the village.
The movie’s background score is by Ilayaraja who, after listening to the story, went spellbound and immediately agreed to work on the score and songs. So the movie has the maestro’s blessings, so to say.
The entire movie is set in Mudukulathar. Divya Padmini plays the female lead and the movie also has Pithamagan Mahadevan, Seran Raj, Singamuthu and Kanja Karuppu in other important roles.
