It
might seem like
a Utopian concept,
an India where love
is not considered
rebellious or outlawed.
The fact is that
in spite of the
IT age, a nearly
double digit economic
growth rate and
an imminent nuclear
deal, the Indian
society still finds
it hard to come
to terms with love,
romance to be more
specific. Parents
who are too eager
to see their kids
get into premier
engineering colleges,
with going abroad
being a natural
progression, seem
to find it difficult
to grant their kids
the freedom to choose
their life partners.
Movies have thrived
on this contradictory
nature of parents,
making films repeatedly
based on parental
opposition to romance.
But here comes one
movie where love
is accepted without
any questions. Might
look like more of
a fantasy than Harry
Potter, but director
P.V.Ravi seems to
believe in it and
that’s what
he will be telling
us in Mahesh Saranya
Mattrum Palar. |

First
thing that
might strike
you about
the movie
is its title,
not the usual
kind, one
must accept.
Yes, it does
look like
a movie with
a difference.
The cast is
brimming with
youth. Sakthi,
P. Vasu’s
son after
his debut
that flattered
to deceive,
Sandhya who
still is finding
herself with
the Kadhal
prefix (does
sit well on
her), Keerthi
Chawla, Santhanam,
Mohana Priya,
Vinodhini,
and Saranya
Mohan.
According
to the director,
the love of
the lead pair
does not face
any opposition
in the movie.
Wonder how
he managed
to make a
story in such
a premise,
the screenplay
is reportedly
very crisp.
With such
meager details
about the
storyline
that seems
to fall interestingly
out of line
with the general
Kollywood
norms, one
can only guess
what the movie
will be like.
The young
cast’s
energy and
performance,
Vidyasagar’s
music aided
by lyrics
from Na Muthukumar,
Pa Vijay,
Yugabharathi
and Nellai
Jeyantha are
things to
watch out
for in Mahesh
Saranya Mattrum
Palar. The
look and feel
of the movie
suggests a
breezy youthful
entertainer.
May it be
second time
lucky for
Sakthi.
Sandhya has
dubbed for
herself. Vidyasagar’s
music and
the two songs
shot in Swiss
cinematographed
by Gunasekaran
are touted
to be among
the USPs.
