Though not exactly a big budget extravaganza, Karthi starrer Saguni has raised expectations among the movie buffs. Directed by debut director Shankar Dayal, Saguni is said to be a political drama, a social satire that will mirror the happenings of politics in present day India. Saguni would be a breakaway for Karthi from his earlier roles. In Saguni, he plays a young and mature politician who is ambitious. There were also rumors when the film went on floors that it is based on the political lobbyist Neera Radia, which was denied by production sources. Karthi plays Kamalakannan, in a completely new get up, with accessories and suchlike to resemble an aspiring politician. Karthi has Pranitha playing the female lead and Santhanam for company in comedy. Their association worked well in Siruthai and it’s expected that Karthi’s sarcasm and Santhanam’s timing in comedy will bring the roofs down in theatres. Karthi is joined by Raadhika Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Roja, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Mumtaj, Nassar and Kiran. Anushka, who was earlier considered for the heroine’s role opposite Karthi, plays a cameo as that of a police officer. With Saguni, she is trying a hand at comedy, it appears. Saguni’s music is scored by GV Prakash and the album has 5 songs. The album has received good reviews and the song Kandha Kaara Vadai by Shankar Mahadevan looks like it’ll be a chart topper. Shot extensively in Chennai and Hyderabad, Saguni was also shot abroad – in Poland where a dance sequence was filmed.
