Mazhaikalam is a love story directed by Deepan. Termed as 'a love story with a difference', the movie has Sriram and Saranya Nag playing lead roles. Despite the families' consent the love does not culminate in wedding and that's answered in the climax, says director Deepan. Ganja Karuppu, KK and Jayshree are cast in significant roles.

Mazhaikalam is produced by Yesudhasan and M. V. Rajan for A. R. Screen'. The movie has Akilan's camera and Satish's editing. While Mazhaikalam's songs are tuned by Prem Anand, its background is by the late Johnson, who was a veteran composer in Malayalam films with around 500 films to his credit.

Deepan handles the movie's story, screenplay, dialogue and direction.
