Sivaji pirated VCDs - surprise raid at printing

Police have arrested a gang, comprising of
3 members, who were involved in making pirated
VCDs of the movie Sivaji. The owner of the
press Joseph Selvin fled from the clutches
of the police. However, his brother Sahayarajan,
designer Thamizharasan and printer Johnson
have been arrested. Kaja and Faisal, both
traders at the Burma Bazaar, also escaped.

The police conducted a raid on receiving secret information
that Annai Offset Printing Press, in Triplicane, Chennai,
were manufacturing pirated VCDs of the newly released
Periyar and the yet to be released Sivaji. The law enforcement
officers rushed to the spot and arrested the offenders.
The search was based on the orders of Additional Commissioner
of Police, S.R Jangid.
The police recovered scores of new movie VCDs and picture
postcards estimated to be about Rs. 2 crores. These were
loaded, by the police, in a lorry along with the film
rolls and negatives used in for making the photos and
were taken to the office of the Chennai Crime Branch.
On a surprise raid conducted at Egmore, Montieth Road,
Casa Major Road platforms new VCDs worth Rs. 6 lakhs were
seized. |
