With Sivaji being successfully censored with
the recommended four cuts from the censor
board, the talks for its business and distribution
have started. AVM Production which was planning
to distribute the movie on their own had placed
a priced minimum guarantee of RS. 50 lakhs
to the exhibitors. There was hue and cry among
the theatre owners on hearing the astronomical
price.

Readers may be aware that at present, theatres showcase
movies based on MG and FH methods. As per the MG procedure,
if the movie is exhibited for Rs. 50 lakhs and, in case,
it grosses more than that amount then the profits will
be shared on percentage basis. In FH method, the rental
will be paid to the theatres and they cannot claim any
share in the profits.
Theatre owners responded that they will exhibit the movie
only if they are given a share in the profits accrued
by Sivaji.
According to the new proposal that they devised, 60 per
cent of the first week's collection would go to the distributors
and 40 per cent to the theatres. During the second week,
55 per cent would go to the former and the remaining to
the latter. It would be 50-50 during the subsequent weeks.
A resolution to this effect has been passed by the Tamil
Nadu Theatre Owners Association recently. The Association's
President, Rm. Mu. Annamalai chaired the meeting and General
Secretary, R. Paneerselvam was also present.
When questioned if the new proposal was done specifically
for the big release of Sivaji, the president of the Association
said: "These methods have been in vogue. It is just
that we want to revive it. The decision will be applicable
to Sivaji and all other films from now on."
Meanwhile, AVM sensing business difficulties has sold
the distributorship rights for Chennai city to Abirami
Ramanathan. Now it will be upto Ramanathan to solve the
issue with the exhibitors. Talks are going on today between
the production house and various other distributors for
other areas.
We will update you as and when businesses for other areas
are done. |
