Kalaimamani awards for the year 2006 are announced
and just like any other year, this year too
witnesses many young actors from Kollywood
receiving this prestigious citation from the
state government. They are Simbu, Trisha,
Navya Nair, Jeyam Ravi, Vishal, Jeeva and
Vineeth. The awardees were short listed by
the Iyal Isai Naadaka Manram and were further
approved by the Chief Minister.

This year the awards go to five people from the field
of literature, three bharatnatyam dancers, seven musicians,
three folk artists, eight television personalities and
eight from the field of drama.
Writers Balakumaran, Vannadasan, Marabin Maindan were
chosen for their contribution to literature. Vocalist
Sanjay Subramanian, Mirdangam artist Srivatsala and Veenai
artist Saraswathi Rajagopalan were selected from the music
field. From the film industry apart from the actors mentioned
above, director Bala, music director Vidya Sagar, lyricist
Paa.Vijay, playback singer Madhu Balakrishnan, Tipu, Bombay
Jayashree, cinematographer Panner Selvam also figured
in the list of awardees. Veteran actress CID Shakuntala
also will be receiving the Kalai Maamani award this year.
From the television industry actress Mounika, Deepa Venkat,
Venu Aravind, director C J Bhaskar will be conferred with
the award.
