Currently in Kollywood, the prevailing trend
is to remake the work of established actors
and directors of yesteryears by the young
brigade of the industry. Vishnuvardhan directing
Billa 2007 of the old film of the same title,
Selva directing Naan Avanillai, the work of
veteran K Balachander are few such instances.

But there is also a slight change in this fad, where Iyakkunar
Sigaram himself has come forward to remake his own creation,
Manmada Leelai, which was a trend setter in those days.
In fact the film had brought out a different dimension
of Kamal Hassan’s acting prowess.
In the present project, Jeeva was initially approached
to don Kamal’s role. Although the actor was excited
to be considered by the legendary K B, he was not keen
about the character as it had a lot of negative shade
and he was not enthusiastic to try out such roles at this
point of his career. However when Simbu was contacted,
he exhibited his willingness to do the role and was also
said to be enthused to feature in Balachander’s
film. But the project is said to kick start only after
Simbu completes his Kaalai and Kettavan.
