It is the time of the annual
jamboree of IIFA. The event
which has been a megahit right
from its inception will be
kicked off this year at the
desert paradise of Dubai.
Touted as a showcase of the
best of Indian commercial
cinema, the most striking
feature this year has been
the staggering number of films
in south Indian languages
included for screening.
The ultimate honour of course
goes to the year’s biggest
grosser, Chandramukhi. It
would be the inaugural film
for this year.

The
movie which grossed nearly 2.5 million
dollars overseas will lead the brigade
of films like Autograph, Anniyan,
Aytha Ezhuthu, Ghajini, Kannathil
muthamittal and Nayagan. The Telugu
and Malayalam collection includes
Rasathanthram, Thanmatra, Tagore,
Pokkiri, Kazhcha and Rajamanickam.
The organizers regretted that no Kannada
film could be included but promised
that some would be added next year. |

Senior
film maker and IIFA board member
Ramesh Sippy lauded the Tamil
industry and said,” South
Indian film industry has great
technicians, many of whom have
worked in my films as well.
While Hindi films get better
viewership, South Indian films
can boast of greater variety
and technical finesse. Therefore,
these films have to be made
available to film lovers around
the world.”
Madhavan
who signed a goodwill message
at a special event for the awards
at Chennai said that Tamil films
were breaking new markets like
Europe and Latin America. |

In all, seven Tamil, four Malayalam
and three Telugu films will be screened
along with 16 Hindi, one each in Bengali
and Marathi and six short films.
