South India Digital Music Management Private Limited (SIDMM) has come into being as a result of the passionate efforts of many pioneers of the South Indian music industry who have made their mark in various genres like film songs, devotional, classical, and folk music. It includes Kavinger Viveka, Sudha Raghunathan (President of SIMCA), Kalyan, Jagdeep Grover, Dhina, and Unni Krishnan. SIDMM serves as an acknowledgment of the newfound technology that has become such a big part of the music industry and also as a means to regulate it. This is why it has been formed by the South India Music Companies Association (SIMCA).
SIDMM has released a catalogue that comprises all the hits of music maestro, Ilaiyaraja in addition to super hits of top heroes over a span of three decades as well as popular folk, classical, and devotional tracks. They wish to emphasize that listening to music is not a pleasure that comes for free and due payment must be made whether a song is downloaded over the internet or transferred to a mobile handset.
In keeping with Copyright Act 1957, SIDMM will be issuing licenses for all mobile companies seeking to use music for commercial purposes and has launched Cell - Muzik - Bank of Music for the same. It will be launched this week and small as well as large format mobile companies are advised to get proper licenses which are valid for one year and then subject to renewal. The idea is to protect mobile retail outlets and ensure peaceful business transactions.
