The call for postponing the Producers’ Council elections gets stronger with several producers raising their voice against the irregularities. The allegations are that new identity cards have been issued but no one knows how these cards were made and the eligibility criteria for procuring it. It is believed that the ID cards were made to ensure fake producers also get an opportunity to cast their votes in the elections.
Further, only regular members of the Producers’ Council are allowed to cast their votes but in the 2008 and 2010 elections this rule was not adhered to and every member were allowed to cast their votes.
Yet another allegation was that the election notification was issued only on September 18th evening and several members received it only on September 20th evening or 21st morning and hence were unable to collect the nomination forms which were available only on September 19th and 20th.
In addition to this, the opening of the nomination box was announced to be held on September 27th but this has not taken place yet.
All these irregularities force the members to seek fresh election dates as it is impossible to set this right before October 9th, which is the date set for elections.
