Rana was a highly anticipated project which was launched with Superstar Rajinikanth before he fell ill. The project was later dropped much to the disappointment of crores of Rajini fans. Deepika Padukone was also looking for the dream launch into the Tamil industry with Rana.
Director K.S.Ravikumar who was supposed to direct this film, states that the reason for Rana being dropped was purely out of circumstances due to Rajini's health scare. He doesn’t feel sad about this and maintains that he enjoys a healthy friendship with the Superstar. The two meet regularly as always.
It must be noted that he had to recently make way for R.Madhesh, as the direction supervisor of Kochadaiyaan.
