Any guess upon salient similarities between Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’ and Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Rockstar’? Apart from ‘Rahman’ factor, there happens to be a striking commonality with the kind of music he has created for these films.
Rahman’s ability to generate the right feel of the films through his songs keeps him over the top of charts. Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ had a blend of both western and Indian music while his upcoming flick ‘127 Hours’ is purely international. 90% of the film’s background music and songs comprises of ‘Guitar’. Indeed, the academy award winner as already won incredible laurels for delivering different emotions through this single instrument.
Since, Ranbir Kapoor’s Hindi film revolves around the lives of rock musicians, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali was keen on sticking to exact details. Especially with the delineation of Rock stars’ characters that urged A.R. Rahman to work on a different genre of music. Since these musicians always hold ‘Guitars’, it was another chance to reinvent music with same instrument. The Madras Mozart admits that the film will have more guitars into music as it defines the characters.
In the recent times, A.R. Rahman has been striking chords on guitars constantly. It was so discernible with his 2010 albums – ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ (Hosanna, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya), ‘Jhoota Hi Sahi’ (‘Call Me Dil’ and few other tracks), and ‘Robot’ (‘Pagal Anukan’).
