Amy Jackson, the girl who burst onto the scene with Madhrasapattinam is all set to do her second Tamil movie. She will be seen opposite Vikram in director A.L.Vijay’s Thandavam. The character she plays has been named Punitha. That is enough indication that Amy plays a Tamil girl in Thandavam. Now, how brave is this casting decision. At a time when even North Indian heroines find it tough to come across as genuine south Indian characters, it would have taken a solid reason for A.L. Vijay to opt for Amy Jackson in his movie. Incidentally, Vijay was the director of Madhrasapattinam too. But, circumstances now are very different because Amy had played a British girl in Madhraasapattinam and the role in Thandavam will involve a totally new challenge for the actress, the director and definitely the make up artistes.
Amy’s latest release has been Gautham Menon’s Ekk Deewana Tha (the Hindi remake of Vinniathaandi Varuvaaaya) which does not seem to have gone down too well with the audiences. Now, let’s wait and watch how this one goes. It is already an exceptional feat that Amy is being considered for roles in Indian cinema. The usual trend with foreign actors is that they do one role and vanish, rarely finding suitable characters for themselves. But, here, Amy is being considered for Indian characters which says a lot about the faith the directors have in her abilities.
