Telugu Superstar, Chiranjeevi’s daughter, Sirija has filed a complaint against her husband, Sirish Bharadwaj and his parents for dowry harassment. Her marriage in October 2007 was a sensational one when she went out against the wishes of her parents and got married. Later she requested police protection because she feared for her safety and was afraid there might be recriminations from her dad’side.
The love marriage is in trouble now. Sirija has claimed that despite giving crores to her husband, he is not satisfied and keeps demanding more. Things came to a head when Sirish and her parents-in-law asked her to cough up some money to the tune of Rs. 1.5 crores for a business venture. On refusing, she alleged that she was physically and mentally abused. Finally, she fled to her parents’ house, when Sirish attacked her yet again under the influence of alcohol.
Central Crime Station (CCS) officials are in the process of gathering evidence that will bear out the claims made by Sirija. Cases have been registered against Sirish and his mother under Section 498-A for subjecting a woman to cruelty and the Dowry Prohibition Act of IPC.
