The much awaited Vijay Awards happened on June 16th, as grand as ever. The event was filled with glitz, glamour and fanfare. This year saw a tighter competition, with many promising performances featuring in the nominations list. Vikram bagged the best actor award for his mind blowing performance in Deivathirumagal, beating Dhanush, Vishal, Jiiva and Suriya. Surprisingly Ajith bagged the best villain award for Mankatha. He also won the favourite actor award, which was given based on the voting done by people. Actress Anjali won the best actress award for Engeyum Eppodum, which won the best film award.
Shriya Saran and Anjali rocked the stage with their scintillating performances. The ‘Soup Boys’ Dhanush and Anirudh performed for Kolaveri. Santhanam, who won his third consecutive best comedian award, entertained the audience along with VTV Ganesh.
