There has been a sudden rise of a new trend in K-town, with the directors looking at making films about conjoined twins. Priyamani is doing conjoined twins in her upcoming Charulatha and Maatraan has Suriya doing the same.
KV Anand had supposedly narrated the script of Maatraan to Suriya in 2009. But they couldn’t take it forward then due to the lack of technology.
KV Anand has also revealed in an interview that Maatraan is an inspiration from the true story of Thailand based Siamese twins Ying and Sang.“I read an article about them, which inspired me to come up with a similar story. I imagined how would it be if two people, who are physically conjoined, completely differ in their ideologies,” expressed KV Anand.
Suriya plays Vimalan, a guy drawn to the works of Bharathiyaar and Gibran, and Akilan, a usual party guy. The film apart from Kajal Aggarwal has two Russian actresses, Irene Maleeva and Julia Flisch in important roles. This is also said to be the first ever Tamil film to star Russian actors.
