The 59th Annual South Filmfare Awards was a glittering affair held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The galaxy of stars from all the film industries in the South were present. Aadukalam was the big winner of the evening picking up five awards for best actor (Dhanush), best film, best director (Vetri Maaran), best cinematographer (R Velraj), and best music director (GV Prakash).
It was a special night for Shruti Haasan as she got the award for best debut and the black lady was presented to her by her father, Kamal Haasan. Anjali won in the best actress category for Engeyum Eppothum and Ananya was given the best supporting actress award for the same film. Ajmal won the best supporting actor award for Ko. Allap Raju was named the best playback singer for Ennamo Etho from Ko. Chinmayee received the best female playback singer award for Sara Sara from Vaagai Sooda Va. The award for best lyricist went to Vairamuthu for the same song.
