In
the times of commercial cinema, short films
and documentary films are also gaining recognition
these days. Instead of the usual formula of
songs and dance numbers, shooting a documentary
film involves a lot of research and developing
new ideas. One such grand idea transformed
into a short film is "Kshama" directed
by M. Venkatesan who has produced and directed
more than 60 short films, documentaries and
Internet Videos to name a few. His documentaries
like Chennai Footpath, Madurai Jallikattu,
Kadhal Mannan have received rave reviews in
film festivals across the globe.
Kshama which is about a 13 year old boy and
the transformation that happens in his life
ends by saying that the 13 year old boy is
the one who later became Mahatma Gandhi. Kshama
also enlightens us by showing that Gandhi
learnt his principles of Ahimsa, Satyagraha
from his father. Research for this documentary
was conducted for 35 days. This 12 minute
film, screened at the IIFF in Chennai, was
the official entry for the Gandhian Panorama
Film Festival and was awarded the Jury Prize.
