If internet speculations
are to be believed, Santosh Sivan is embarking
on a directorial voyage with a sprawling epic
set in the 15th century India. Expected to
be a bilingual, to be made in Tamil and Malayalam
simultaneously with Prithviraj and Genilia
in the lead, the movie will be tentatively
called Urumi. The movie will be a period drama
and will delve into the assassination attempt
of the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama,
who reached Calicut in 1498.
Urumi will be Santosh’s directorial
venture after his critically acclaimed Hindi
feature film Tahaan, released in 2008. Santosh
is also fresh from the critical praise he
received for the recently released Mani Ratnam
magnum opus Raavanan.
