The Big Salute to Women Entertainer awards saw the Kollywood glitterati coming down to honour the women entertainers across genres such as sports, dance, music, television and films. Held at the Anna Library auditorium on February 25, the event turned out to be an occasion to celebrate the women talent in entertainment.
The lifetime achievement award for sports went to Olympian Shiny Wilson, who said that she was moved by the gesture. “Though I have received several awards at the national and international arenas, this is the first time that I am receiving an award at Chennai,” she said.
The lifetime achievement award for dance was given to veteran danseuse Chitra Visveswaran.
A touching moment came when Chinna Kuyil Chitra was given the lifetime achievement award for music. A short audio-visual presentation showcased her musical journey and her national award winning moments. A battalion of young singers led by singer and music director Karthik presented her the award. When she sang Thooliyile… song owing to popular demand, the audience burst into thunderous applause and gave her a standing ovation.
Kushboo received the lifetime achievement award for her contribution to television.
The crowning glory came when actress Sneha was given the Women Entertainer award for films. The award was presented to her by none other than actor Prasanna, with whom she is getting ready to walk down the wedding aisle.
Actresses Sandhya, Danshika and Sri Lankan beauty Chandi Perera added colours to the event by their dance items.
