Gautham Menon is well known for his breezy and feel good love stories. Be it Minnale, Kaakha Kaakha, Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu or Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya, he brings in difference in the romance portions in all his films.
Similarly, he has a new love story in Neethane En Ponvasantham. Though he has kept the story a secret, he has revealed about the origination of the title, Neethane En Ponvasantham. Varun, the story’s protagonist, meets his girlfriend Nithya in the college, three years after they both broke up in school. Varun, who is also a singer, in an attempt to woo her again, sings a song that goes ‘Ninaivellam Nithya’ on stage, instead of the one he had practiced.
In the 1982 film Ninaivellam Nithya, there was a song, ‘Neethane Enthan Ponvasantham’. So Gautham Menon felt the title would be suitable for his romantic entertainer.
As far as Ilayaraja, the maestro had composed the songs for Ninaivellam Nithya and Gautham Menon has always wanted to work with him in a film. Every time Gautham comes up with a script, he would think of asking Ilayaraja to compose music, but would vote against it for some reason. But while scripting NEP he had already decided that he would ask the maestro to give music for it. And he says he is lucky to have roped him in.
