Now that the first look for Karikalan is out, Vikram's fans are buzzing with excitement. Vikram is portrayed as a fierce spear - wielding warrior flanked by war elephants standing on a battlefield. This conjures up images of the great Chozha warrior Karikalan. Legend has it that this mighty monarch was given this name because his leg was charred in a fire accident when his enemies were trying to kill him. This lad survived and grew up to be a brave warrior who defeated the Pandyas and Cheras who had united against him in a famous battle. It is also said that his conquests took him all the way to the Himalayas where he planted the Tiger flag of the Chozhas as proof of his valour.
How much the film Karikalan draws from the legend of this great ruler remains to be seen especially since the makers are keeping a tight lid on the script. But it has been said that a part of this flick will be a period drama so these portions may deal with the real Karikalan. Director Kannan is determined to keep us guessing.
Zarine Khan is the heroine and she is a Salman Khan protege. The formerly chubby actress has lost lots of weight and word is that she is looking super hot. Little wonder that she got such a promising part in such a big project with none other than Vikram. Pasupathy also has a good role in this film. He and Vikram have worked together in Majaa and will be looking forward to sharing screen space again.
