The Malayalam Nadigar Sangam AMMA has issued
a statement in which it expressed its displeasure
on Kamal Haasan being honored on August
22nd 2010. It is a practice that the Kerala
Government would celebrate the Onam festival
every year by conducting the Onam Tourism
Week. And during this event, a film star
would be honored.
This year, the Kerala Government selected
Kamal Haasan to receive the honors. Reacting
to this, the President of AMMA, Innocent
said that the association is not against
honoring Kamal but is agitated that when
there are numerous actors and actresses
in Kerala, having completed 50 years in
the film industry, why an actor from another
state should be felicitated.
Innocent added that though the association
would not participate in the function, it
would not stop the stars who wish to do
so in their individual capacity.
