MS Subbulakshmi, the legendary singer and winner of the Bharat Ratna passed away in 2004 at the age of 88. Tanishq, the jewellery brand has launched a limited edition of gold coins engraved with the image of the singer. The coins will be available in two, four and eight grams. a portion of the proceeds will be donated for cancer and diabetes research.
This initiative taken by Tanishq seeks to honor the singer for her phenomenal contribution to Carnatic music which is an integral part of India's rich cultural heritage. In life, MS Subbulakshmi was famous not only for her extraordinary voice but her charitable work as well.
