Famous Malayalam film producer, Navodaya Appachan passed away on Monday. He was 81 years old and had been fighting cancer for a long time. Officially known as MC Punnoose, he passed away in a private hospital in Kochi on Monday night having succumbed to prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
Navodaya Appachan was considered a pathbreaking showman as he produced the first 3D film in the country, My Dear Kuttichathan as well as the first 70mm film Padayottam. He is also credited with introducing powerhouse performers like Mohanlal, Poornima Bhagyaraj and director Fazil. To him goes the credit of having founded India's first theme park, Kishkinta at Chennai. The film industry will be poorer without him as he was simply irreplaceable. Our condolences to his loved ones.
