Rahman
– Age isn’t anything but
a number!
The Chennai maestro Rahman celebrates
his 43rd birthday today. While wishes
from his friends, relatives, media
and his millions of fans from all
over the world are pouring in on his
birthday, Rahman seems to be confined
to the coziness of his family celebrating
it as a rather private and quite event.
Having born as Dileep Kumar on January
6, 1966, the talented composer became
Rahman when his family converted to
Islam in the late 1970s.
Rahman shot to overnight stardom after
scoring for the Mani Ratnam directed
Roja although his debut movie was
the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam flick
Yodha. Immense success of the Roja
album brought in popularity and worldwide
acclaim to the musician who was later
accredited with the title ‘Mozart
of Madras’ by the renowned Time
magazine. Rahman’s shot to international
spotlight came with his association
with Andrew Lloyd Webber in the stage
production Bombay Dreams. Rahman also
made Chennai proud when he associated
with Michael Jackson for his ‘Michael
Jackson and Friends Concert’
in 1999. He also allied with Craig
Armstrong for the Hollywood movie
Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
Rahman was also involved in the music
composition for The Lord of the Rings
theatre production with the Finnish
folk music band Värttinä.
The past year has been no less than
a milestone in the life of this acclaimed
musician who was nominated for a Golden
Globe in the category of Best Original
Score for the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
As for year 2009, Rahman has an impressive
lineup of projects including Mani
Ratnam’s Asokavanam, the multi-crore
production venture Endhiran and the
Tamil animated feature film Sultan,
The Warrior including other international
projects.
While celebrating Rahman’s success,
Behindwoods joins millions of his
fans and well wishers in wishing the
maestro and his family good health
and happiness on his birthday. |
