After
the rise of multiplexes in the country, directors started
experimenting with themes, as niche audience are always
ready to patronize novel ideas. Keeping pace with the
changing face of Bollywood is Dus Kahaniyaan that has
ten different short stories – not woven into each
other and are abruptly delivered without any correlation
to each other.
The
very first impression that naturally arises is that
the movie would have similarities with the Darna Mana
Hai series, since those are an anthology of short stories
but the similarities end just there. |

Dus
Kahaniyaan promises a great viewing experience something
to be cherished for a while and comes across as a superior
product than the Darna Mana Hai series. It is stylish
and richer than its scary counterpart. However, all
it scores is five out of ten, which is hardly an achievement
to rave about. |

Matrimony
The first shot is by the ace director Sanjay Gupta
himself. Arbaaz Khan, Mandira Bedi, and Sudhanshu
Pandey star in this story about marriage affairs and
pain. The story gives a perfect start to the anthology
but is quite predictable, nevertheless enjoyable.
High
on a highway
The story stars Jimmy Shergill and Mausmeh as two
college students who are drug addicts and what happens
to them is told in a way, which promised a lot. However,
the ending wasn’t that convincing which pronounces
that Hansel Mehta needs to work on his screenplay.

Pooranmashi
Meghna Gulzar comes up with a drama with Amritha Singh,
Minissha Lamba, and Parmeet Sethi in the lead. The
story could have been very powerful if not for the
illogical script. Still Amritha Singh’s acting
makes up for it to an extent.
Strangers in the Night
Mahesh Manjrekar and Neha Dhupia are husband and wife
who usually divulge a truth about their life on their
anniversary and it’s Neha Dhupia’s turn.
Sanjay Gupta’s second shot in the movie and
the movie has an interesting twist, which is sure
to receive applause.
Zahir
Now for one of the best shot in the enterprise and
yet again it’s Sanjay Gupta who impresses. Manoj
Bajpai is a wannabe writer and Dia Mirza is his neighbor
with whom he slowly falls in love, but Dia Mirza turns
down the offer. What happens to their relationship
follows the rest.

Lovedale
Love, destiny and more love forms the crux for this
Aftab Shivdasani, Neha Uberoi and Anupam Kher starrer,
directed by Jasmeet Dhodi. The story is a complete
let down as the characters look artificial their acting
and situations were too theatrical to be true.
Sex on the beach
Title for the worst of the lot will have to go to
Apporva Lakhia’s Sex on the beach. It was clearly
intended to add the glamour quotient of the film.
A desperate attempt on wooing the frontbenchers. Dino
Morea, the protagonist, finds a book while alone in
the beach, he starts reading and everything in that
book starts happening truly. But if such things happen
wont we try to finish the book? But our clever hero
doesn’t and pays the price. It would be recommended
to sit through the interval portion and watch the
blank screen and go to the rest room and buy your
popcorn when this is on air.

Rice
plate
A very cute short about a conservative Hindu Tamil lady played
by Shabana Azmi who realizes that all are equal from a Muslim
man played by Naseerudin Shah. Both the seasoned actors and
give out the right emotions impressing us. Director Rohit
Roy has taken the basic plot from an award winning short film.

Gubbare
Sanjay Gupta is back again and he tells the most simple
but yet the cutest story of the lot. Nana Patekar’s
innocent acting carries the story so well, though the
movie was predictable and the last conversation was
illogical. Yet, its innocence and the main theme of
love for your partner is conveyed effortlessly. And
when Nana Patekar offers one gubbare to Anita, our heart
goes for him.
Rise and fall
Who told in ten minutes a Gangster epic couldn’t
be told, Sanjay Gupta and Hansel Mehta have done it.
The story has been shot very stylishly and if the last
action sequences were cut and a simple gun shot battle
was employed, it would have elevated the movie to more
heights but still a good attempt. Sanjay Dutt and Suniel
Shetty play a role, which they have donned several times
so they are at complete ease.

Overall
an experience, which may not get a ten out of ten, but the producers
will surely get full marks for such an interesting experiment.
The movie will surely go well with the elite and the wanna-be
filmmakers. Overall the movie will falter at the single screens
but can get some quick money from the multiplexes.
Verdict: It's Sanjay Gupta all the way
