Jackie
Chan, the name is enough to bring to mind bone breaking,
death defying stunts and we are not exaggerating.
It is said that the man himself has lost count of
the number of times he has hurt himself while shooting
and yet at an age when most heroes would prefer
to take the easier way ( use a stunt double) he
keeps coming back with more to enthrall us.

We don’t have to tell you much about
the Jackie Chan brand of action. It is not
the Arnold- Van Damme- Sylvester Stallone
type that makes your jaw drop; it is the type
that makes you clap your hands in glee and
smile from ear to ear as he swings around,
punches, kicks and sometimes takes a fall
himself. It’s a style that is his own.
Action that you can let kids enjoy without
fearing that they will develop violent tendencies.
That’s Jackie Chan for you.
So, if you are one of those rare persons who
has not yet seen a Jackie Chan movie but still
liked what has been written about him above
then you can go and watch this movie. For
others who have already enjoyed the Jackie
Chan style in Shanghai Noon, Rush Hour and
many more then we can tell you this; you will
not be disappointed.

Rob-B-Hood is a fun fest, may be a bit too late for
summer. Jackie Chan and two of his friends (played
by Louis Koo and Michael Hui) are outlaws, petty criminals
who steal only to while away all their ‘hard
earned’ money in gambling and race courses.
That is until they hit on a jackpot. They have to
kidnap a baby and deliver it to an old man. Why? For
that you have to watch the movie. But then, Jackie
and his friends are supposed to be the main protagonists
of this movie, aren’t they and so inevitably
they change their minds and decide to return the baby
to its parents. There is a strong reason behind this
too which we do not think appropriate to reveal. They
do get the baby back but not easily and even the baby
seems to be in no mood to cooperate with its rescuers.
The baby is enjoying the entire adventure to the fullest,
making the most of its time out in the big bad world,
all at the cost of the hapless trio. It is fun, all
the way and lots of action too comes your way. You
don’t know whether to call what unfolds on screen
as splendid action or slapstick comedy, it is well
blended. |

Rob-B-Hood is an entertainer; the type that
you will enjoy if you still retain the child
in your heart or in a more simpler manner, if
you had enjoyed Shanghai Noon and the likes
of it. The last few Jackie Chan films had not
been that great, this might just renew your
faith in him. Rob-B-Hood arrives in India on
June 1st may be a bit too late for the summer
holidays. But if you still are in the summer
mood or want to cap off your child’s summer
vacation with some innocent enjoyment, then
we recommend this. Rob-B-Hood was released in
most parts of the world as early as September
2006. The reason behind its delay to reach India
is not very clear. Anyway, better late than
never. By the way, there is a dubbed Tamil version
too the name of which is given right at the
top; sorry too long to be typed again. The ‘Pirates
of the Caribbean- At the World’s end’
too releases on the same day. We just hope this
small film doesn’t get head butted by
the Black Pearl, that will be a shame. |
