Kanthaswamy

Cast : Vikram, Shriya, Vivek, Raghuvaran

Direction: Susi Ganeshan

Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Production: Kalaipuli S Thanu

If there’s anything that is topping the buzz list in Tamil cinema, it has got to be Kanthaswamy. Vikram’s come back movie of sorts has managed to generate more than a few ripples among the movie circles even before its launch. The astounding eight-minute teaser trailer that was released during the ‘invitation launch’ event has already started making headlines.

The trailer opens with a Kato mask and the inscription of the name Kanthaswamy behind a cinema ticket. After the credits finish rolling on, it is Vikram who completely takes over. The entire trailer is strewn with taglines in Vikram’s voiceover in his customary crisp tone. Some of the dialogues do hit hard.

“Idhu innikku thodangina yutham illa, innikke mudiyura yuthamum illa”
“Namma paattan potta sanda, appan potta sanda,
Naama potuttrika sanda, namma pullinga poda koodathu.”

The Kato mask serves as a cut-to-next-shot equipment and Vikram’s three different roles flash before the eyes without warning. Vikram looks dashing cool in his hooded Tees and larger than the face sunglasses. Before his image flashes off from the eyes, rather unexpectedly, a middle-aged woman occupies the screen with a flare in her eyes that could just not be missed. Of course it was Vikram in one of his make overs.

Vikram’s other looks include a batman-like outfit complete with a Kato mask and an old and wrinkled sanyasi. Shot from incredible angles and briskly edited, the trailer provides a near-Hollywood experience for the first time in a Tamil movie. Besides, Vikram sports a dashingly trendy and younger look in the romantic scenes with short haired Shriya in dangerously skimpy outfits. Shriya’s exquisite looks are sure enough to burgeon her already flourishing fan base.

Vikram’s baddie-bashing is brilliantly shot from unbelievable angles and it’s not difficult to notice that Vikram has toned up for the movie. On the lighter vein, Shriya threatens Vikram at the edge of a knife - to be loved by him.

As the end credits roll, Vikram’s threesome act is strappingly embedded in the minds of the viewer. Especially the compassionate looks in the eyes of the wrinkled sanyasi refuses to budge. So yes, it’s time again to look out for the talented actor in a promising venture.

Devi Sri Prasad scores the music, art direction is by Thotta Tharani, Kanal Kannan takes care of the stunts, Antony is in charge of the editing and Ekhambram handles the camera.

Kalaipuli Thanu, the producer, is renowned for innovative marketing strategies and a mere look at the teaser trailer is enough to prove the point. Totally new to Tamil movies, this novel method of invitation embedded with a LCD screen that runs the teaser trailer of the movie is sure to make a few heads turn.

Nevertheless, director Susi Ganeshan, Vikram and Thanu need to be applauded for pioneering this trend of releasing a trailer even before the launch of the movie. This move augurs really well for Tamil Cinema.

If well begin is half done, Kanthaswamy’s crew is already half way through to creating history.

P.S:
The exclusive trailer video has temporarily been brought down on request from Producer Thanu. Lucky few Behindwoods visitors got a glimpse of the ‘See it to Believe it’ trailer.
