Inime Naangadaan

Direction: Venkybaboo

Music: Illayaraja

Production: Sridevi

It’s quite natural if you thought it’s time we stopped working just on the outsourced animation jobs for Hollywood movies and make one on our own. For the same fact, the producers of Inime Naangadaan deserve to be lauded just for the mere attempt of producing a first ever full-length 3D animation movie in Tamil. The movie’s success will eventually stand proof for the refined taste of Tamil cinema audience and will indisputably elevate movie making in Tamil to new levels.

The plot
Produced by Sridevi and directed by S. Venky Baboo, Inime Naangadaan’s plot revolves around a bunch of friends – Vicchu, Varathu, Vaithi and Govind – hailing from a small village and how they chase their dream to get rich, without having to working hard. As the movie unfurls, the viewer is taken on a spectacular journey through the life of the four friends and their adventures in the process of getting rich.

Voice-overs of Pandu, Vasu Vikram, M.S. Bhaskar, and Maran render incredible assistance in gluing the viewer to the movie. The mildest of emotions of the animated characters are crafted meticulously and they look effortless onscreen propagating the success of animation in India.

Animation
The animation scenes inside the gold fort where the images are shown to reflect are an excellent example for classy animation. Fans inside the gold fort and the emission of smoke from the scooter are the few other noteworthy scenes that could leave you breathless.

Ilayaraja’s music plays a significant role in seamlessly integrating the movie watching experience especially when there are no real actors involved. The maestro’s mastery in the usage of sounds and chords for the song ‘Oru Murai Kettal’ is evident. The instrumental usage for the song is amazingly elegant.

Other strengths
Director Venky Baboo handles the dialogues for his own story. The movie’s plot being a simple moral story, intended for kids, the dialogues are obviously preaching in nature and more often than not strike the right chord. If you had a kid at home, Inime will most certainly provide a delightful movie watching experience. A refreshing change from all the animated and often violent mediocre television programs they indulge themselves into.

Inime runs for 90 minutes and has reportedly consumed a budget of about 4 crores. However, the movie has successfully set a trend for more such ventures in Tamil cinema and could even evoke interest in the upcoming animated-Rajinikanth starrer ‘Sultan - The Warrior” produced by Soundarya, the superstar’s daughter. Afterall, it does get boring to watch real people onscreen at times.

Verdict - Don’t forget to take your kids along
