The Lychee and Dog Meat Festival, an annual dog meat festival, has begun in the Chinese city of Yulin in Guangxi province. While the US campaigners, earlier this year, claimed that vendors had been told by authorities not to sell dog meat, the stallholders said they had heard nothing about this from officials, say reports. While there were rumours that the festival had been cancelled for this year, the city officials, on 15 May, confirmed there was no ban.
