The world's rarest white diamond has been auctioned for $ 21.9 million.
Diamond
Diamonds that are formed due to high pressure underground are naturally more hard. These are being stripped and sold for crores of rupees. They also vary in color depending on the chemicals present in the soil in which they are buried. Pink and blue diamonds, for example, are the most widely sold. Of these, white diamonds are the rarest. Because of that their prices are also substantial.
White diamond
20 years ago, a known type of diamond cut and polished in South Africa was sold at auction in Geneva. Named 'The Rock', the diamond was auctioned off yesterday by popular auction house Christie's. At 228.31 carats, this rare stone looks like a pear.
Previously on display in New York, Taipei and Dubai, the world's biggest millionaires competed to buy the diamond. The rare diamond was finally sold for US $ 21.9 million (Rs 169.6 crore in Indian currency). The diamond was reportedly bought by a North American man, but the auction house refused to release his name.
Medal
The owner of this drawing, which is the size of a golf ball, is said to have affixed it to the priceless necklace. It is worth noting that the current purchaser of this diamond has been awarded a platinum and a diamond medal.
Previously considered the world's rarest diamond, The Rock was expected to sell for $ 30 million (Rs 226 crore in Indian currency).
