A GIANT HAZARDOUS ASTEROID TO SWEEP BY EARTH THIS MONTH - READ ON FOR MORE DETAILS!
Home > News Shots > WorldNASA has announced that one of the most dangerous asteroidis approaching Earth next month.
Like other planets in the solar system, meteors and asteroids orbit the Sun. These asteroids sometimes come very close to Earth. However, the US space agency NASA will announce whether they are dangerous based on the distance between the asteroid and the Earth as it passes through Earth. NASA has confirmed that a giant asteroid, defined as the most dangerous of its kind, will pass over Earth next month.
1989JA
Discovered by Polomer Laboratory in 1989, the asteroid was named 1989JA. It has also been reported that people can see the asteroid with binoculars as it approaches Earth. The 1.8-kilometer-wide meteorite is expected to travel 40,24,182 kilometers at a speed of 47,196 kilometers per hour, according to NASA.
Danger to the Earth?
The last time the asteroid passed through Earth was in 1996 at a distance of 4 million kilometers. Researchers are now excited about the asteroid approaching Earth again. NASA has clarified that although this is the largest meteorite to pass through the Earth at a distance of 40,24,182 kilometers thus there will be no danger to the Earth. The asteroid is scheduled to cross Earth on May 29. The asteroid is expected to pass by Earth again in September 2029. NASA has announced that the asteroid will pass similarly to Earth in 2055 and 2062.
The most recent asteroid to approach Earth was 138971 (2001 CB21). It covered a distance of 49,11,298 km on March 4 last. NASA reports that the asteroid was 1.3 km wide.
