Crisis
The Sri Lankan Government is facing a severe economic crisis. The price of petrol, diesel and gas cylinders is at an all-time high. As a result, food prices have skyrocketed. People are suffering due to rising prices of essential commodities including rice, bread and milk.
Moreover, Sri Lankans are being forced to stand in long queues to buy groceries. In addition, the public is dissatisfied with the Government for causing 13-hour power cuts every day.
Power outage
Due to the power outage, various companies have suspended their operations in Sri Lanka. Also, there has been a situation where students are unable to continue their education at night. Due to this, the students who were involved in the protest yesterday raised slogans against the Government, marched carrying banners with slogans such as "Do not ruin our educational dream".
Fallen Currency Value
The Sri Lankan rupee has fallen to an all-time low against the US dollar. In addition, Sri Lanka has no foreign exchange reserves and is unable to import petrol and diesel. Inflation in Sri Lanka has quadrupled in two years, which is considered to be the main reason of the problem.
Resignations
All 26 cabinet ministers of the Sri Lankan Government have announced their resignations. In this regard, 4 new ministers were registered yesterday. It is significant that the Sri Lankan Parliament convenes today amidst great expectations.
