The Russian military has fired rockets at a Government building in Ukraine. This created a huge hole in the building.
War
Russia has strongly opposed the decision, citing Ukraine's willingness to join the European Union. Following this, President Putin presented a request to the Russian Parliament for permission to conduct a special military operation in Ukraine. Parliament also gave its approval. Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24.
This was followed by a fierce battle between the Russian military and Ukrainian security forces in Ukraine. The United Nations says more than a thousand people have been killed and many more injured. Ukraine also claims that 30 million people have so far sought refuge in neighboring countries as a result of the war.
