TWO MEN BUY AN ENTIRE CARIBBEAN ISLAND THROUGH CROWDFUNDING TO START THEIR OWN COUNTRY
Home > News Shots > WorldTwo men have bought an island through crowdfunding and are down in an attempt to declare it a separate country. This is a hot topic that is being widely discussed on the social media right now.
Island
Gareth Johnson and Marshall Mayer bought an island near Belize, a Caribbean country on the northeastern coast of Central America. However, they did not buy the island with their own money. Johnson, an entrepreneur, and Marshall, a global financial and business expert, both started a crowdfunding program called "Let's Buy an Island".
Both have announced that donors to the project will soon be recognized as citizens of this country that will flourish. The two completed the island's purchase plan in 2019. The two reportedly were able to raise £250,000 through investors to purchase the 1.2-acre island in the Caribbean.
Investment
Both are involved in the task of declaring the island a new country. The country has been reimagined as the "Principality of Islandia" and investors in the country will be given the right to choose their leader.
They pointed out that those who invest $ 3,250 will play a key role in nation-building, saying "the ministers for this country will be chosen according to the investors' guidance."
Citizens
Citizenship of this country is to be granted to those who make small financial contributions to the Construction Project. The two plan to employ a total of 5,000 citizens.
The "Let's Buy an Island" website states, "social responsibility, living in harmony with the environment, achieving self-sufficiency with the island's sustainable resources, and finding ways for travelers to experience the solitude of nature"
Will the two, who are trying to raise money through crowdfunding and create a separate country, succeed in this long journey? It is yet to be known.
