An elderly man has been living with his wife's coffin for the past 21 years in Thailand.
Charn Janwatchakal is from Thailand. A former military medical aide, he has lived as his little weedy world. Charn, who usually leaves his home only when absolutely necessary, has recently been involved in an accident. The nearby Phet Kasem Bangkok Foundation has offered to help. It's customary for a trustee to return to his home for about 2 months.
Dilapidated house
Charn Janwatchakal has been raising dogs and cats in his home. Although it is a concrete house, this house has no electricity. Charn, who lives alone in this dilapidated house, has only pets as his companions. Charn, who shares water with a neighbor, recently visited the Pet Qasim Bangkok Foundation. Authorities there were shocked to hear what he had to say.
21 years
Authorities did not know what to do when they learned that Charn had lived with his wife's coffin for 21 years. Charn also said he lived with his wife without burying the coffin because he had no intention of leaving her. In addition, he had requested the authorities to assist his wife in performing the funeral rites.
Charn's statement came as a shock to authorities, who said he had made the decision because he was too old and his wife would not be able to attend the funeral if he died.
Grandpa
This was followed by the funeral of his wife on April 30, with the help of trust administrators. "Mum, you are just going for a brief business and you’ll be back home again. It won’t be long, I promise," he said.
According to Charn Janwatchakal, he lived with his wife's body, who died in 2001, for 21 years.
