A fisherman in Cambodia has caught the largest trout in Asia. These photos are currently spreading virally on social web sites.
Very rare stingray
The Mekong River is located in the northeastern province of Cambodia. The people there have a habit of fishing in this river. In this case, a few days ago, a fisherman caught a huge stingray in the net. The astonished fisherman shared this information with the neighbors.
Following this, an international team of fish experts came to the area to visit the fisherman's favorite trout. The weight and size of the fish were then examined. Authorities say the fish is 13 feet wide and weighs 180 kilograms.
Back in the water
The fisherman has done the same, telling authorities to release it back into the water because the trout are so rare. Officials said, "This is the largest stingray fish in Southeast Asia. This river is a source of tens of thousands of lives. We have allowed the rare fish to return to its habitat."
Mekong River
The Mekong River is the second longest living river in the world after the Amazon. More than 1,000 species of fish live in it. At 4,350 km, the Mekong River is the longest in Southeast Asia. This vast river originates in China, travels through Tibet, across the Myanmar-Laos border and then into Thailand, reaching Cambodia and Vietnam.
A US-based team is studying the biological conditions of the river. The team also visited the giant trout as part of it.
