Researchers have discovered a giant shark near the state of New Jersey in the United States.
OCEARCH, a marine research group, has been studying sharks. The company is researching shark species around the world, their migration and their way of life. In this case, the company has found a 12-foot-long giant shark.
Giant Shark
The company said the giant shark was spotted off the coast of New Jersey in the United States on April 28. At 12 feet 4 inches long and weighing 452 kilograms, this giant fish was first spotted in the Nova Scotia area of Canada. The researchers then fitted a tracking device inside its body. Now, 3 years later, the monster fish is back.
This is the 53rd shark found by the OCEARCH research organization in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean. Researchers have dubbed it the 'ironbound shark'. Researchers say the shark is named after one of the strongest marine animals.
Bob Heuter, a senior researcher at the organization, said: "This shark may be as old as 20 years. Bob said he had tried to see the fish again several times since it was first discovered in 2019 and that it was currently underway. He noted that the fish have swum 21,000 kilometers since 2019.
He says the fish, which usually inhabits US waters, travel north each year during the summer to the Nova Scotia area in Canada.
