Why does it sometimes drizzle and not rain? NASA explains

A NASA study clarifies that upward current of air play an important role in making clouds decide whether to drizzle or to rain heavily. Researchers found these updrafts in low-lying clouds will push the droplets into upper clouds. These drops remain airborne until they coalesce to become full-sized droplets, eventually causing rainfall.
