US TO 'CRUSH' CORONAVIRUS, SAYS TRUMP; THREE COVID-19 VACCINES READY FOR PRODUCTION: DETAILS
Home > News Shots > WorldAs a Republican nomination for a second term, US President Donald Trump pledged to "crush" the coronavirus pandemic with a vaccine by the end of the year.
During his speech, US President Trump said three coronavirus vaccines will be ready for production soon and could be made available this year.
“We are getting our scientists to develop vaccines under 'Operation Warp Speed'. We have 3 vaccines that will be available for production soon and they will be available this year. We will have a safe and effective vaccine this year and together we will crush the virus," Trump said at the Republican National Convention.
Earlier in the month, Trump had said that a vaccine for the coronavirus could be available before the November 3 presidential election, which was sooner than most experts anticipated.
As per ABP Live report, there are more than 200 COVID-19 vaccine candidates globally, including more than 20 in human clinical trials. Trump has even vowed to have a shot ready before year's end, although they typically take 10 years or longer to develop and test for safety and effectiveness.
Currently, the majority of the world’s population is still susceptible to coronavirus which means the infection can go on. So the best way to achieve that kind of population immunity would be through a vaccine, said the World Health Organisation (WHO).
