US GOVERNMENT SECURES 100 MILLION DOSES OF THIS CORONAVIRUS VACCINE! HERE'S WHY- DETAILS

The US government has secured 100 million doses of a novel coronavirus vaccine, mRNA- 1273 on Tuesday according to Moderna Inc. The US government is trying to secure vaccine in order to ensure early access to safe and effective coronavirus vaccines and hence decided to secure this vaccine as a part of the deal. 

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the US government has awarded 1.5 billion USD for 100 million doses of this COVID19 vaccine that is currently at the third phase of clinical trial which began on July 27.  Reports suggest that the government will purchase additional 400 million doses of the vaccine as a part of Operation Warp Speed if need arises. 

“This evening, I am pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Moderna to manufacture and deliver one hundred million doses of their coronavirus vaccine candidate,” President Donald Trump told mediapersons on Tuesday.

“We appreciate the confidence of the US government in our mRNA vaccine platform and the continued support,” said Stéphane Bancel, Moderna’s Chief Executive Officer.

“We are advancing the clinical development of mRNA-1273 with the ongoing Phase 3 study being conducted in collaboration with NIAID and BARDA. In parallel, we are scaling up our manufacturing capability with our strategic partners, Lonza, Catalent and Rovi, to address this global health emergency with a safe and effective vaccine,” Bancel added.

The third phase of this vaccine trial will include almost 30,000 participants from the United states.
