An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 reportedly struck off the coast of Australia near New Caledonia (82kms east of the Loyalty islands) in the South Pacific. Reports say, the quake struck at 9.43am local time (2243 Sunday GMT) at a shallow depth of 10km (six miles). The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said that small tsunami waves were detected and hazardous tsunami waves of 0.3m to one metre were possible also the coastlines of New Caledonia and Vanuatu in South Pacific region.
