At a time when the world is under crisis amid the deadly coronavirus outbreak, US President Donald Trump is considering suspending a number of employment visas including the H-1B.
This visa is most sought-after among Indian IT professionals and this decision comes in view of the massive unemployment in America.
As per The Wall Street Journal quoting unnamed administration officials, the proposed suspension could extend into the government's new fiscal year which begins on October 1, when many new visas are issued.
This suspension could bar new H-1B holders outside the country from coming to work until the suspension is lifted.
Highlitening about the H-1B visa, it is the most coveted foreign work visa for technology professionals from India. With such a decision, an adverse impact on thousands of Indian IT professionals would be affected. Already a large number of Indians are affected and heading back home due to the pandemic.
When the media, asked the White House, on any final decision taken, they clarified saying no final decision has been made and the administration is considering various proposals.
Meanwhile, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley in a statement said the administration is currently evaluating a wide range of options, formulated by career experts, to protect American workers and job seekers especially disadvantaged and underserved citizens but no decisions of any kind have been made, reports CNBC-TV18.
