"THE IRISHMAN" IS NOT THE FIRST FILM WITH 'ZERO' OSCAR AWARD; SIMILAR FILMS LISTED
Home > News Shots > WorldThe 92nd Academy Awards created history after South Koren film "Parasite" received the best picture award. It is the first non-English film to receive the best picture award in the history of OSCARS.
Meanwhile, Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman" presented by 'Netflix' was nominated for 10 categories but did not receive even one award.
Though there is speculation that films streamed on 'Netflix' would likely not considered for Academy due to business factors, "The Irishman" is not the first film to come out empty-handed despite the most number of nominations.
The following is the list of films in the OSCAR history that were nominated the most number of times but came out empty-handed based on one Variety report.
Herbert Ross's "The Turning Point" (1977), Steven Spielberg's "The Color Purple" (1985) - 11 Nominations
Scorsese's "Gangs of Newyork" (2002), the Coen Brothers "True Grit" (2010), David O. Russell's "American Hustle" (2014) - 10 nominations
Scorsese's "The Irishman" (2019) - 10 nominations
Being the biggest streaming platform, the growth of Netflix has taken a leap in recent times. The 2020 Academy Awards spotted two films from 'Netflix'; Noah Baumbach's "Marriage Story" received 6 nominations out of which Laura Dern won for Supporting actress and "American Factory" directed by Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar won the award for Best Documentary.
