INDIAN-AMERICAN POLITICIAN HAS A STRONG MESSAGE TO CHINA'S COVID-19 FIGURES
Home > News Shots > WorldSoon after US recorded 240,000 confirmed case and fatalities rose over 5,900, Indian-American politician Nikki Haley termed China's official coronavirus figures as "clearly not accurate". She had also cast doubt on the accuracy of China's official coronavirus figures.
"China has reported only 82,000 coronavirus cases and 3,300 deaths in a nation of 1.5 billion people. This is clearly not accurate," Haley said in a tweet to the United Nations.
She also stated that "China cares more about its reputation than helping the rest of the world defeat a virus that was started in their country." Nikki's statement comes amidst reports that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has advised the White House not to trust the data that Beijing provided.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump also told reporters that he did not believe the figures given by China. "Their numbers seem to be a little bit on the light side," Trump said at a press conference.
As per a news agency AFP report, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the US jumped to 240,000 while the fatalities rose to 5,800, when compared to China. Meanwhile, according to China's National Health Commission (NHC), a total of 81,589 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 were reported and 3,318 people had died of the disease so far.
As per Johns Hopkins University data, a total of 10,02,159 COVID-19 cases have been reported globally with 51,485 deaths.
