According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the emigration of Indian workers to Gulf countries has declined by 34.6% between 2014 and 2016, resulting in a slight drop in overall remittances or private transfers made by Indians working abroad. The MEA attributed the decline in emigration to the economic slowdown in Gulf Cooperation Council countries - United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.
